就拿其诗《砚边偶思》而言,杜新元老师写道:“我以我情画我山,他人情事不相关。不周山折驱来用,更起昆仑柱世间。”诗人的豪情奔放溶于山水之间,也是他一生艺术创作的真实写照与艺术追求。杜新元老师认为,中华文化博大精深,需要传承,更需要创新。杜新元老师是践行者,其诗书画三绝合璧,已然形成一个新的艺术风格、流派。其间逐渐形成了他有关诗书画的理论观点——中国的诗书画是道法自然,是哲学思维所产生发展的,所以创新无穷尽,发展无止境,即使山重水复,总归柳暗花明。画家只画画,书家只写字,分门槛而各立门户,佯知书画同源,不晓诗文同气,更不理解诗文书画互为表里。正是基于对现状的思考,杜新元老师致力于诗、书、画三者间共集大成,以诗为骨体其意,以书为体美其形,以画为用体其雅。用欧阳中石先生的话说就是:“美”、“雅”、“妙”。

谈到西画与国画的现状与发展时,杜新元老师认为西画是科学思维的产物,讲求光、色和焦点透视,追求效果逼真,形似。而中国画是以哲学思维为创作机枢,以写意为手段,通灵内涵,养眼更养心。科学越发展越精微,西画便越式微。照像术的出现,写实主义西画便走向末路,后来的印象派、抽象派,乃至现代主义、后现代主义,你方唱罢我登场,各自匆匆数十年以至于到了行为艺术,还是绘画吗?无怪乎西方艺术大师毕加索说:“真正的艺术在中国。”哲学思维带给中国艺术以无限广阔的空间,创新发展无止境。偏离这一思维,则只能是歧路、末路,近百年中国艺术之路,殷鉴不远。纯艺术是西方理念。艺术是文化则是中国所具备传统思维,所以中国有诗,有书,有画,有三绝,西方没有。继承发展是天道,而只有创新才能发展。中华五千年文化绵延,文明的不断绝,正赖于此。达到诗书画一绝,难!达到三绝,难乎其难,所以,中国历代当得三绝者寥寥。三绝合璧出自一人者,是独出,是创新。

看到杜新元出版的大红袍书画集我非常高兴。在这之前看过很多他的作品,从来没有这样全面的去欣赏,这次看杜新元的作品集实在是很触动我,书法和国画作为一种传统文化,它们的生命力无限广阔,它们的功能是不会衰退的。但当代书画家能把书法和国画融合得这样美妙,那真是少之又少,杜新元他做到了。
